A responsible player, Air Liquide is widely involved in the development of technologies that enable to offer solutions to the major challenges facing our society. Hydrogen energy is one of them.
As a leader in its industry, Air Liquide considers that it is responsible for making a real contribution to the preservation of life and the environment. Today, 42% of the Group’s revenue is generated by applications that serve this end. In addition, 60% of the annual R&D budget is devoted to innovation in these areas.
In the field of hydrogen energy, Air Liquide is already marketing applications that offer immediate added value via its subsidiary Air Liquide Hydrogen Energy. The Group provides electricity production solutions for facilities that are cut off from the power grid—for example, telecommunications antennae, and mobile solutions for special-purpose vehicles such as forklift trucks.
Above and beyond these initial applications, Air Liquide participates actively in the rollout of a hydrogen energy market and business and promotes the widespread adoption of hydrogen for clean mobility.
In support of these aims, the Group’s strategy is organized around two principles:
First, innovation that leads to improvement in technologies which already exist and the development of the most efficient ones across the whole hydrogen chain, from production to the use of hydrogen in fuel cells, not to mention the development of the infrastructure that supports hydrogen distribution, as well as storage and safety.
Second, the Group is actively involved in demonstration programs, often supported by governments, which allow for the real life testing of hydrogen energy which is needed to ensure it is a sustainable business.
